What are the applications of formaldehyde?

It is used to produce urea-formaldehyde resin and phenol-formaldehyde resin.
1. Wood industry
It is used to produce urea-formaldehyde resin and phenol-formaldehyde resin. It is produced by mixing formaldehyde and urea in a certain molar ratio.
2. Textile industry
The use of formaldehyde is involved in the resin finishing of clothing. In the production of clothing fabrics, in order to achieve the effects of anti-wrinkle, shrink-proof, flame retardant, etc., or to maintain the durability of printing and dyeing, or to improve the feel, formaldehyde must be added to the auxiliary agent. At present, pure cotton textiles are mostly used for printing and dyeing auxiliaries with formaldehyde. Because pure cotton textiles are prone to wrinkles, the use of formaldehyde-containing auxiliaries can improve the stiffness of cotton fabrics. Textiles containing formaldehyde will gradually release free formaldehyde during people's wearing and use, which can cause respiratory tract inflammation and skin inflammation through human respiratory tract and skin contact, and can also cause eye irritation. Formaldehyde can cause allergies and cancer. Manufacturers use formaldehyde-containing dyeing auxiliaries, especially in order to reduce costs, some manufacturers use cheap auxiliaries with extremely high formaldehyde content, which are very harmful to the human body.
3. Anticorrosive solution
Formaldehyde is a substance released by decomposition (namely sodium formaldehyde bisulfite) above 60°C. It is colorless, has a pungent odor, and is easily soluble in water. 35% to 40% aqueous formaldehyde solution is commonly known as formalin, which has antiseptic and sterilization properties and can be used to soak biological specimens and sterilize seeds.
The main reason why formaldehyde has antiseptic and bactericidal properties is that the amino groups on the proteins that constitute organisms (including bacteria) themselves can react with formaldehyde.
4. Food industry
Take advantage of the antiseptic properties of formaldehyde and add it to foods that are not easy to store such as aquatic products.
